About
Genema: Greek – “that which is a product or result of becoming; lit.as increase of harvest:
product, fruit, yield; fig. as the result of giving generously: benefit, outcome”
Acknowledging that there is much about life that is hard, the Genema Gallery strives to show the hope, beauty and redemption that can and does exist in the midst of suffering, despair and hardship. The Genema Gallery is a ministry of ChristChurch Presbyterian. It is designed to encourage not only artists but also those simply interested in the arts to discover God’s creative image through the variety of artistic media He has given us.
The Arts Ministry of ChristChurch seeks to cultivate in those both inside and outside of the church an increased comprehension of the arts as an expression of God’s transcendent grace and beauty.
The fantasy writer, George MacDonald, in answering why the arts were critical in life, said the following: “The best thing you can do for your fellow, next to waking his conscience, is, not to give him things to think about, but to wake up things that are in him, or say, to make him think things for himself.” God is at work in the world and in you. The arts are one environment where humanity wrestles with the true, the good and the beautiful; the evidence of God’s existence. Our hope is to awaken that slumbering ache for beauty, grace, and life. For once hope is awakened, such desire can but find its source and fulfillment in the God who speaks.
All of the artists exhibited in The Genema Gallery and their work are their own. It has not been commissioned. It stands or falls on its own merit.
